Chinese water bodies likely to get depleted by 2030

The Chinese authorities expect that the water resources in the country are going to be depleted by the year 2030. Fearing the worst, the Chinese govt. has already asked the responsible officials to take the necessary steps in the face of crisis.

The surface as well as underground water system is almost on the verge of depletion. With the population passing the 1.3 billion mark, the Chinese govt. is really worried about the future of the people.

The ever increasing economic and social demand for water in China is a grave scenario. A govt. document posted online has already urged the govt. agencies to take the necessary steps to ensure that something is being done. According to statistics, China has about 7% of the global water resources that supplies water to about fifth of the world’s population. I can’t imagine what would happen if the major water bodies in the country dries up.

If the water crisis prevails in China, the potential grain crop in China will drop by 10%. This will in turn result in food crisis. With no water and no food, this part of Asia is likely to face a grave situation. As of now, drought is already a burden for many farmers in China. As a last resort the country can fall back on the huge stock pile of foreign exchange that it has.

It will be able to use this stock pile to shop around the world for food and other necessary resources to prevent a grave situation.
