Breezy makeover for an elongated narrow bedroom

makeover for an elongated narrow bedroom

Small bedrooms are turning out to be a reality with shrinking residential space. Since, we spend a good amount of time in our rooms; we want it to be soothing to help us wind down. But small rooms tend to look overcrowded and messed up because they seem deficient when it comes to floor and storage space. But nothing should stop you from making your little space great on the style meter. Here are a few tips to maximize space with minimal efforts, after all style knows no boundaries.

Clear the clutter:

A cluttered room can even make a suite look small. Try to do away with stuff that you think is not really required. Be enthusiastic to cut the clutter. Keep it tidy and organized, and paint the walls in lighter tones.

Divide the room cleverly:

Placing smaller furniture will do the trick. Place a bed as per the size of the room. After that calculate the amount of area left and if for example you are fond of writing or want a reading space, simply position a chair with a table in one corner with good lighting. At another end you can have a game table or a small sofa with a round table in front.

Mirrors:

The most understandable use of a mirror is to admire oneself. But to create illusions of more space make good use of decorative mirrors which reflect both natural and artificial light. Easily available, mirrors not only enhance the overall look of a room but when hung on walls especially light in color, it’s the easiest way to create space and add beauty. An option to have one on the wardrobe or a floor or even the ceiling should be welcoming. Adding a mirror opposite to natural light will not only brighten the room but further craft an illusion of space. They will instantly transform a narrow strip to a large space.

Utilize the space to maximize it:

Try and use multi-functional furniture. Like sofa beds, beds with storage space or a chest that can be doubled into a coffee table. Avoid placing any kind of furnishing which block the entrance. A little walking space, possible by using compact furniture, should be created.

Create smaller zones:

To cut the length of a room and divide it into smaller zones, bring dividers into the scene. Split the space by drapes to generate delineation. Place a chair at a rear end with a carpet between the bed and it. This will generate a sense of demarcation and divide the room with ease. Even folding screens can be used. But one has to be very careful while breaking up a room as one wrong object can mess the whole the look.

Hang the TV:

Flat screens can prove to be a blessing when it comes to enhancing space. Simply hang the TV on the wall like a mirror and create more room. Or if you have a normal TV either get a TV stand fixed on the wall or place it on an armoire.

Draperies:

Use light fabrics and blinds and avoid heavy curtaining, which give rooms a crowded feel. They not only ornate a room but if flattered with shades of the walls, will grace it further. Add curtain rods nearer to the ceiling and make them reach till the floor. This will give an elongating impression adding height and a hint of drama as well.

Bedding and linens:

Choose linens for your bed that are plain and restrict it to a single design pattern. Place large pillows against the wall if you have a daybed look which will make it appear like a sofa. Positioning bolster pillows on the sides of the bed will further complete the whole sofa look.

We suggest:

• Avoid hanging a lot of pictures on the wall.
• Keep the floor as clear as possible.
• Instead of bedside tables use wall mounted shelves.
• Choose stimulating and neutral tones for the walls. Use more of white and crème colors.
• Place furniture at an angle which leads the eye against the longer side.
• Avoid using tall furniture, which may make the ceiling look lower.
• Create a focal point in the room.
