Bay Windows to suit modern living

Bay Windows to suit modern living

Bay windows have, just like many other things around us, evolved with the time. Architects have been experimenting a lot with the bay window designs and as a result, the bay window today has a lot of variety. The reversed bay window, for example, represents the modern look of the ever evolving designs of bay windows. Reversed bay windows projects inward the room instead of outward; a common feature of most of the windows. Therefore, it takes some space rather than adding some more.

The traditional bay windows usually were three sided and would jut out of a house. Though such bay windows allowed a lot of air and light to come in, they needed additional space toward the exterior. This would mean securing additional permissions before constructing one. The traditional bay windows would either look like a trapezium or a rectangle. The traditional ones would provide space to place objects like flower pots on the bay. The modernized version of the bay windows, on the other hand, are designed with the aspect of utilizing the maximum of a given space. We have put together certain ideas for a modernized bay window.

a. Reverse bay windows

Bay windows have experienced subtle and explicit changes. The reversed bay window, as mentioned earlier, is representative of a highly explicit transition. A reversed bay window projects inward the house instead of outward. While the reversed bay window has its own beauty, the idea probably traces its evolution to a need for saving space. A drawback of the reverse bay window is that the corners bordering the window frames may be obscured from light and air.

b. Bay windows with awnings

Such bay windows jut out of a house and have an awning on the top. The bay window could be of any size or shape trapezium, rectangle or semicircle. The awning is designed based on the size and shape of the bay window. Often, an Awning color and design can provide a marked contrast with those of the bay window and this adds to the beauty and elegance of the house.

c. Kitchen Bay Windows

Defying traditions of building bay windows for living rooms and drawing rooms, many house owner now insist on having bay windows in the kitchen. Many kitchens have been found to have bay windows with wooden blinds.

d. Bay windows with Greenhouse

Many house owners want to have a lot of plants on the bay since the bay receives a lot of light. The architects specifically make space for planting and growing the plants on the bay. Having a lot of plants also adds to the beauty of the house.

e. Bow windows

Many houses have bow windows which have curved windows instead of the flat ones. However, the amount of elegance the shape will lend depends on the shape of the house overall. Though there are some definite trends, as far as bay window evolution is concerned, many changes purely depend on the requirements of the house owner.
