Where will the baby sleep? Crib bassinet or bed

Bassinet is considered one of the best option

Are you so overwhelmed with the joy of having a baby that you just forgot about deciding where to lay it at home? Which one to choose? The bassinet, the crib or the bed itself. Due to lack of knowledge about any of the available options, it is generally very difficult for parents to decide which is the best option for baby’s health and comfort. You can evaluate all the three choices by reading this article.

1. Bassinet

Bassinet is considered one of the best option for putting the baby to sleep. We can well evaluate it by looking at the following:

Thumbs up

a. Small size

Being small in size, bassinets are easy to handle and can be shifted from one corner of the house to the other very conveniently and can be easily kept at the bedside of their mother. Not only this, their small size, gives comfort to the recovering mothers to place the baby safely in the cradle and ensures that the infants are well fed and well taken care of as they wake up from time to time.

b. A cozy haven

The infants generally require a cozy atmosphere around them and a bassinet is just the right answer. Not only this, their beddings are hard and exactly as required for the safety of an infant.

c. Price

The bassinets are the least priced of all the available options

Thumbs down

a. It’s required to be replaced very soon as the infant outgrows its size in as early as two month’s time.

b. It’s a tough job for the mother as the baby wakes up quite often.

c. Its light weighted structure makes it all the more susceptible to getting knocked down.

2. Cribs

Nowadays, people put the cribs high up in their preference list. Glance down at their pros and cons and then decide for yourself.

Thumbs up

a. It’s high boundary safeguards the infants from rolling off.

b. Can be used for as long as two years.

c. It’s heavy structure protects it from getting knocked.

Thumbs down

a. They are highly priced.

b. Because of their high sides, it is difficult to place the baby inside the crib for the recovering mothers immediately after delivery.

c. Not easily movable and are thus stationery at a single place. Also it occupies a large floor space

d. It does not provide an environment cozy enough for the infant.

3. Bed

Often people know less about the pros and cons of laying the infants on the bed. If you too are not sure then view the following:

Thumbs up

a. It gives an emotional relief to the parents of the infant to make it lie close to them. The parents wish that their new born baby must be safe and well protected by them. So, it’s generally seen that they prefer making it sleep with them.

b. Beds offer large space and are therefore very comfortable for the parents and the infant. Also, it acts as a substitute of other options and serves best for the small sized rooms.

Thumbs down

a. The most striking drawback is that making infants sleep on the bed makes them prone to SIDS i.e. sudden Infant death syndrome.

b. It is not advisable to make the infants sleep on soft and spongy beddings as they prove to be fatal for them. Annually 900 infant deaths are reported because of soft beddings.

c. There lies another risk that the infant might roll down the bed as there are no side ends.

The bottom line

As a general practice, parents prefer cribs over bassinets. They can be used for over a time period of two years and can serve the purpose of safeguarding the infant lying in them. If all the safety conditions are kept in mind, a couple can opt for any of the above choices, but it is recommended that cribs be used for infants till two years of age.
