Auckland’s first sustainable road to set precedent green road construction

Auckland sets a precedent for eco-conscious road construction for the world with the construction of its first sustainable road made from 100 percent recycled material. The Denize Road in Mt Roskill is repaired by using material made by mixing old roading substances and bitumen salvaged from previous jobs on city streets. The work of this sustainable road is being looked after by ARMA – West is comprised of the Auckland City Council, MWH New Zealand, Leighton Contractors and Blacktop Construction.

The Denize Road that consisted of large boulders and hand-packed material laid haphazardly was given a green transformation by the road designers and the Auckland City Council. The road suffering from cracking and undulating surface was in terrible need of an upgrade. It requires 600 cubic meters of recycled material and is estimated to be 30 percent cheaper than traditional construction methods.

The road experts along with graders and diggers are working very hard towards completed it as soon as possible so that locals do not have to suffer. This green transformation will prove to be a boon for the environment as the use of recycled material lowers the trips to the landfill, which in turn keeps carbon emissions at bay and energy-intensive activities to a minimum.
