Add the haunt factor to your home this Halloween

Halloween is on its way and you don’t want to be missing out on the action when it comes to giving your home that perfect haunted look this season. Everyone wants to be creative when undertaking Halloween decorations so if you want to give a really spooky look to your home full of terrible effects, then just set your budget and determine your horror targets. You actually don’t have to spend a fortune on setting up decorations. Instead you can pick up cheap items from a store like spider webs, black and orange balloons, pumpkins and various other tit bits to add to that Halloween fright. Below is a list of additions you can use to introduce an element of horror to your home.

1. Illuminated patterns

Create the image of a bat on the wall of your room by cutting out a figure on a black piece of paper and fixing it over a flashlight with the help of some sticky tape. Then, use lenses to magnify the image and set it in a secluded zone.

2. Lighting for special effects

Illuminate a prop, for example, a pumpkin or a skeleton, by using a light that is colored red or yellow. In order to get the effective angle, you can use a swing-arm lamp or a clip-on. Use cellophane gel that’s about 2 inches away from the light source. These gels, heat resistant plastics and color pieces can all be bought from any general store at very low prices. You can even use simple colored light bulbs for the same.

3. Place those scary hands

Take rubber gloves and stuff them with cotton or tissue paper. Then, decorate them with gauze wrap, spray paint, fake nails, rings and blood-colored paint to create dreaded bloody hands.

4. Smoky effect

You can use fog and smoke releasing machines on rent for the special occasion. These will not cost you much for a single day’s hire or even a weekly hire. The machines use either dry ice or a specialized fluid to give that foggy effect.

5. Creepy signs

Hang a scary sign over your door so that the very entrance spells danger for your party fellows. This will greatly add to the element of fun.

6. Spooky noises around your home

Your haunted zone will remain incomplete if proper audio effects are not included. Consult an audio shop or even your local librarian for a recording of some Halloween special organ music or sounds which have special effects of screams, howls, chains, nails, footsteps or spooky laughter. Hide the player in a closet and leave the door slightly open.

7. Head over table

The head trick is a classic scary element that can be done in your home too. All you need is a piece of cardboard, a table cloth, a decorating tray, a warming cover made of silvery material and you’re good to go.

8. Banner tapes around your lawn

Place banner tapes on the outside of your home to mark it is a no-entry zone.

9. Haunted window

Add some horror to your windows by decorating them with creepy curtains and tattered paper.

10. The good ol’ Jack-o-Lantern

Decorate a Jack-o-Lantern with scented candles or battery-lit ones. Place it around your house for lighting plus scaring the pants off people. You can even place some lanterns around your lawn for a haunted entrance.

11. Place scary pictures

Take print-outs of scary or gloomy faces in black and white. Use old rugged frames to place them in. Then, hang them around visible areas with a slight tilt so that they appear to be possessed.

12. The hanging body

Stitch together your old socks and slacks and fill them with cotton foam. Next, decorate it with bloody paint and other scary elements. Then pin it to a board and hang it over your roof to create an effect that a man is stuck there.

13. Halloween tree

Use a dry branch and decorate it with Jack-o-Lanterns and plastic bats. Fix the branch in soil and place it at your entrance for maximum effect. All these things are easily available at any supply store and will cost you a minimal amount.

While there are many more ways to spruce up the Halloween occasion, the suggestions listed above are easy to create and don’t require you to spend oodles of cash on expensive props and decorations. You can also do them with your children who will enjoy working with you. The best part is all the props can be bought from general stores.
