According to a research conducted at the Technion – Israel Institute of Science and lately published in the journal Electrochemistry Communications, a new decomposable battery has been developed that could last for thousands of hours . Developed by Prof. Yair Ein-Eli, the current green battery prototype has non-polluting silicon energy source that reverts back to sand once depleted. Prof. Yair Ein-Eli hopes that this battery could be used in almost anything, from hearing aids to electric cars. Owing to its small size, the battery can be effectively used in hearing aids and in the near future, it could allow your laptop to run for hundreds of hours on a single charge. In the paper, we showed that at 600 hours it had used only 10 percent of the energy. So we are talking about 6,000 hours.
Prof. Ein-Eli is hoping to see the technology to be used in small devices within a couple of years. For now, he is working on enhancing the battery’s energy output.
