What better way to motivate someone than by making sure that if a mistake is made then it would cost them dear? Well, when the pep-talk stops working & people refuse to listen, then the law has to step in & intervene for people’s own well being. The city of Manchester has decided to go precisely in that direction. The authorities are hell bent on seeing a city that is clean & environment conscious.
The city officials have made it mandatory to recycle all waste & have asked the residents of the city to follow the same. Manchester has separate bins for paper, plastic & glass & the city authorities want the people to use them in the right fashion. Any violation is slapped with a fine of 100pounds. The city saw an increase in recycled waste from 3% to 20% since they started to work towards the goal. But the target set by the city for this period was as much as 28%. This has left the officials a touch disappointed but also has left them equally motivated to achieve their goal.
Officials claim that they have already accumulated a sum of 650,000 pounds in terms of the fines collected so far. This money, I suppose, will go into further strengthening the process & help making the city far cleaner. The purpose of the drive is not only to keep the city clean but also promote awareness among its denizens. I think the step would go a long way in ensuring a better tomorrow for all. Just hope that a day turns up when there are no more fines to be collected. That truly would signify the victory of the program.
