5 Ways To Turn Your Frown Upside Down

Waking up in a bad mood can start your day off on the wrong foot. You feel agitated, irritated, and it seems like there is virtually nothing that could turn your frown upside down. The good news is, there are some steps available to you to help transform your state from a negative one to a positive one. You just have to be willing to want to change your state, and that, my friends, takes a little bit of effort. So how does one change their state? Simple. Keep reading.

#1 Identify

When you are feeling negative or just down in general it is helpful to identify why you might be feeling this way. Did you have a fight with a loved one? Are you fed up at work? Are you feeling overwhelmed in your life? Do you wish you could change up your current situation? What ever it is that you are feeling deep down inside, even if you don’t want to admit it to your friends or family, identify it within yourself. Nice you have located the source of your problem and what exactly it is that is making you miserable, you can take the necessary steps to improve on it. If you are fighting with a loved one, have an honest no BS talk with them about how you are feeling. If you are fed up with work, start trying to decide if your job is really what you want to be doing, and if not, start looking for alternatives. And if you are feeling overwhelmed in your life, try planning a ‘me day’, a day that is solely dedicated to doing everything you want to do. Do you want to take a weekend trip and get out of town? Do it. Do you want to have a spa day and relish in doing nothing but getting pampered? Do it. Do whatever it is you think would make you feel better and help dissolve your negativity. You will thank yourself for it.

#2 Move

I can’t stress this point enough. If you are feeling down and negative, one of the best ways to change your state is to getting moving. Go for a walk, a jog, take a yoga class, go for a coffee with a friend. Just start moving. By you moving around and getting active, you get your endorphins flowing. This is important because endorphins are also known as the happy chemical in your body. Once those are released in your body, it is hard to stay in a bad mood. In addition to that, walking, or getting active in general, helps to clear your mind, put things in prospective and make better decisions. So go for a stroll, walk your dog, or take a yoga class. You will be happy you did.

#3 Get Real

One of the first things I do when I start to feel negative or when I wake up in a bad mood is I try to take stock of my life.  I ask myself, are things really that bad? I try to list, either on paper or just in my mind, all the things I am grateful for in my life and how much worse it could be. When you give yourself that little bit of perspective you will find that things really aren’t that horrible. And if you are going through a hard stage in your life, rest assured that all stages come to an end eventually and that this to shall pass. I’m sure when you get real with yourself and take stock of your life and all you have going on, you will see that you aren’t that bad off.

#4 Indulge

Usually when we are feeling negative or are in a bad mood, we tend to justify indulging in bad-for-us foods, or even worse, over-indulging in alcohol to make ourselves feel better. While it’s not the best solution and fix to feeling negative, as you will probably guilt yourself the next day for over-indulging, it can help to cheer you up to treat yourself. Go to the corner store and get yourself your favorite treat, or an ice cream cone, or even a glass of wine. As long as you don’t over-indulge, you should start to feel better. After all, we all need a treat every now and then.

#5 Laugh

You would be surprised how much a simple laugh can do to alter your mood. Not finding anything funny today? Why not surf YouTube for those silly videos of babies or animals doing something totally ridiculous? It’s almost nearly impossible to not laugh when you watch someone or something unknowingly being hilarious. And since it has been scientifically proven that laughter helps change bad moods into good moods, this seems like one of the easiest and most entertaining ways to quickly help change your mood from one that is negative to one that is slightly more positive. If you still don’t feel positive after one funny video, watch another one, or another five. Watch or read as many funny things as you can to help get you out of your mood. Finally, if you are feeling negative, don’t get yourself even more down about it. Realize that even the happiest of people have days when they don’t feel happy. It’s a part of human nature and fortunately everything is figure-out able.
