Kuo Ying-chao and Chang Ching-hwa of Taipei-based Bioarch Formorsana architects are left with only 20 months to abide by their promise to design the green pavilions at the design expo. Until now, they’ve done good job in offering some truly impressive blueprints for the Pavilion of Dreams, Pavilion of Life, and Pavilion of the Future at the site of the Xinsheng Park project that suggest a sensible use of modern renewable technologies gelling with the inherent biodiversity of the region.

The Pavilion of Future and the Pavilion of Life draw inspiration from the floral patterns and are shaped after a swallowtail butterfly’s wings. Offering instruction on gardening technology, ecology, energy conservation, waste reduction, and health, the entire park area will seek diamond certification under Taiwan’s unique EEWH Green Building Assessment System.

The pavilions will be having solar panels on their rooftops to keep them running for 2-3 hours a day. To ensure nonstop supply of cool air, the pavilions will utilize the underground vents. Next, the expo will rely on the neighboring Keelung River for irrigation of plants and it will reduce the on-site water consumption by 60 percent. That’s not all, the automatic temperature monitoring systems will find an application in detecting temperature changes and adjusting the indoor air conditioning. Last but not the least, the green rooftops will make sure that the temperature inside the pavilions never exceed a certain level.
