worlds first lung transplant on hiv patient 64
After successful kidney, liver and pancreas transplants on HIV patients, it was lung transplant that medical experts carried out successfully for the first time on an HIV patient in Italy. A medical institute in the Southern city of Palermo brought out this exciting news.

Interestingly, HIV-infected man whose name and age has been kept concealed so far is stated to in good condition after the operation. However, doctors had to go for this transplant as last resort because the patient was suffering terminal respiratory problems and this transplant was his only chance of survival, according to doctors.

This is being seen as major achievement in the field of medical science and expressing similar views on this Alessandro Nanni Costa, director of Italy’s National Transplant Centre said:

This is an important event in the progress of transplants.

It is interesting to note here that doctors had been able to carry out this transplant as they were well armed with advanced Medicare, available today for treating such HIV patients.
