Vioxx causes heart attack in first two weeks

The team of Canadian researchers found that 25 percent of the people who took Vioxx within the first two weeks of treatment, suffered a heart attack. Earlier the risk of heart attack was linked with it on taking for 18 months or more. Now doctors are advising Celebrex to the patients.

Vioxx was pulled out from the market in September 2004, when a study found that it had double risk of heart attack than people taking a placebo. The trial was in fact intended to observe if Vioxx might be used to avoid colon cancer. According to the research, patients having Vioxx for the first time were high risk of having a heart attack between 6th and 13th day on the drug.
