Surgery may cure Pilonidal disease

Pilonidal disease is a general problem that may be observed first in post pubertal individuals and young adults. This occurs near sacrum or tailbone. Inflammation in the hair follicles because the area is naturally warm, moist and may cause infection frequently.

A Pilonidal abscess occurs as red swelling in or near cleaves between the buttocks. The more hairy people are at the higher risk of this disease. The long sitting and less hygiene may cause this disease. The treatment for pilonidal abscess is surgical drainage. However, drainage is not enough alone for this.

The surgical removal of the involved tissue and as little normal tissue is general process of the treatment. Then the care of the wound is important. Slow healing from inside out in open is called secondary intention healing.

This process takes almost two months to heal. Some surgeons close the wound by suturing it. This makes the healing much earlier. However, it also has a higher rate of recurrent problems.
