Renal Diet has immense importance for diabetics. Diabetes is the major or biggest issue related to renal failure. The majority of people suffering from kidney issues have diabetes. Combining diabetes diet and renal diet can be difficult for an individual. The main objective of the Renal Diet is to maintain an appropriate level of blood sugar level in the human body.

2 Ways to Go With Renal Diet

– Eating carbs that have low GI is the first way to proceed with this diet. Low GI foods take a longer period of time in breaking down and releasing sugar into the blood. The list of low GI foods includes unrefined foods, fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes, and whole grains. On the other hand, highly concentrated and refined carbohydrates include sugars, drinks, white bread, and other confectionaries.

– The second way to go for this diet is to eat at least 6 times a day. Eating lesser and frequent throughout the day provides appropriate energy to the body while maintaining low blood sugar levels.

2 Principles of Renal Diet

Limiting Protein Intake
Excess protein intake is not good for health. Protein breaks down into nitrites and carbohydrates. The nitrites are transferred to urine. It makes the kidneys work more due to the increased production of nitrites. The diet solves this issue by limiting protein intake.

Limiting Table Salt  You must not use salt replacements as they contain a high amount of potassium. Foods rich in potassium include banana, citrus fruits, pears, prunes, watermelon, avocado, cantaloupe, apricots, and kiwi. Other high phosphorus foods are dairy dried legumes, organ meats, shellfish, and legumes. Avoid all these foods in this diet.
