Mentally ill get chains not care! Is it civilization?

mad man
Fight against deadly diseases like HIV/AIDS, diabetes, and cancer might have been pushed to laudable heights; however, the sphere of mental health still looks marooned with 30 percent of world’s population wriggling under some severe forms of mental health disorders. This is quite shocking that mental illness results in around 800,000 suicidal deaths, mostly committed in poorer countries.

Mental health disorders are being meted-out lackadaisical approach in the developing countries, for they lack sufficient access to proper treatments or run short of awareness about the treatments available. For instance, in India alone only 7 to 8% of an estimated 50 million people with mental illness get proper treatment. However, what makes developed nation follow the same is somewhat an intricate issue. Well, it is a naked fact that people’s vulnerability to mental disorders like anxiety, depression, dementia, etc. is comparatively more severe in developed nation and the nations that are likely to emerge as big business hubs on the world-map. It may be due to higher expectations of success that sometimes result in frustration especially when people fail to achieve those self-made targets.

In the 21st century wherein we proudly talk about elevated level of civilization and boast of human rights, 90% of people keeping bad mental health – either get no treatment at all or sometimes become victim of inhuman torture. In some cases, they are either chained to trees – as if they are beasts – or kept in cages. All this shows that much still remains to be done to make life worth living, especially for these mentally ill people, as for them life is still no more than a nightmare.
