Menopause and its effects on women’s health

Menopause is the time in the life of a woman when mensuration periods stop permanently and it is called as the change of life. After a woman reaches menopause she is susceptible to a long-term health risks due to the loss of estrogen and this can affect their health.

As it is a creation of a female’s reproductive ability. It is a natural change and usually occurs during their late 40s or early 50s. Factors influencing the time of menopause include heredity, smoking and alcohols. The age or time of menopause does not rely on physique, height, number of children or the use of oral contraceptives.

It is not a disease. Many women may handle this time without any problem but some has a huge impact of this on their comfort level, health and body. Some effects are discussed below:

Bone loss

This may lead to osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become fragile, they lose density, and then the breakdown of bones gets faster.

Heart disease

Women during this stage may face a higher risk of heart disease. This occurs due to the fall of estrogen level. Estrogen helps in maintaining the cholesterol level, smoothing and opening of blood vessels, which helps in maintaining the normal flow of blood and reducing pressure.

Psychological effects

It increase the risk of depression in women, some report mood swings, tearfulness, anxiety and irritability. Additionally, it also causes irritability, memory loss and insomnia.

Tooth loss, gum disorder, sleep disorder, eye disorder and ageing. Moreover, it also affects the health and this is all because of fall of estrogens. Estrogens help to prevent eye disorders, such as cataract, glaucoma and macular degeneration.

It is a natural occurrence within the female’s body but our society has put horrible stereotypes, stigmas and brain washed our minds to think this is the end of worlds for women. Scientifically, it is defined as the absence of menstrual periods for 12 months. It is the time in the life of women when the function of ovaries ceases. This process does not occur overnight, but somewhat it is a slow process. It is different in different women. However, the age at which a woman starts having menstrual periods is not related to the age of menopause start.

The ovaries are the main source of female’s hormones and menopause is the time in the women’s life when the function of the ovaries ceases. This can occur in women during her late 40s and early 50s. This time a woman need a balance diet, relaxed body and care.
