Inadequate sleep linked to bad performance in exams: study

kids and sleep 64
If your kid is not performing well in his exams then inadequate sleep can be one of the reasons behind this, in a new study researchers found. Exerting this view, the same study revealed that the lack of sleep disrupts functioning of the hippocampus, an area of the brain that formulates new memories.

In order to drag out such findings researchers tracked about 28 volunteers. Some of these volunteers were allowed to sleep normally while some were kept sleep deprived. Further, these volunteers were screened by fMRI scanner that gives a 3-D image of blood flow, hence of cerebral activity. Finally, researchers concluded that sleep-deprived group did slightly worse in the first test than the sleepers. Moreover, fMRI scanner showed that hippocampus activity among the sleep-deprived was far lower than among their counterparts.

This is quite a significant revelation that shows how important adequate sleep is. Moreover, it adds a new chapter in the series, which uncovers importance of adequate sleep in our life. However, we must not forget that previous studies have also dubbed sleep important for mental health. Interestingly; it has also been found important in fighting obesity, depression, etc.
