Flavonol-rich food reduces cancer risk

onionIn our childhood, we were always scared of the injection needle, and going to the doctor always meant bitter pills and injections.

To make the children eat apples, elders always repeated the famous line ‘eat an apple every day and keep the doctor away’. As we grew up we started avoiding raw onions lest we smelled odd in public.

Onions are consumed raw especially in parts of India where the hot air blows. Onions have always been used in dishes to add flavour to the food.

Raw onions in diet are known for cooling the body. Apple consumption was always encouraged because it is believed that fruits are good for health.
appleRecent studies, published in British Journal of Epidemia, tell us of the useful components present in the apples and onions. The components are known to be flavonols, which play a significant role in reduction of risk of pancreatic cancer.

Certain amount of consumption of flavonol-rich fruits and tubers, perhaps, can reduce the risk of cancer. This may be perhaps good news for smokers.

But, individual immunity varies. So, rich intake of flavonols may show cancer resistance in some while others may not.
