Do not use cell phones outdoors during a thunderstorm

Using cell phones outside during thunderstorms may be risky to your health. The lightening may struck you.

A 15-year-old girl was hit by thunder lightening while using the cell phone in a park. She suffered continual health problems. She was using wheelchair for a year.

Swinda Esprit, a doctor at Northwick Park Hospital in England sent a letter to British Medical Journal by saying that in case of struck by lightening, the skin conducts the flash over the body, that is called flashover.

When any metal objects like cell phones interrupt the flashover, the possibility of internal injuries increases. He further added that such cases are already reported in China, South Korea and Malaysia.

The Australian Lightning Protection Standard previously commended not to use any metallic objects such as cordless or mobile phones outdoors during a thunderstorm.
