Don’t worry; your tot being wacky is normal

Toddlers are always up to some antics that can drive you crazy or will simply make you laugh out. Even the most patient of parents can be driven to distraction when toddlers morph into wacky little habits. You might find your toddler’s behavior quite peculiar but take heart, this seemingly weird behavior makes perfect sense in your toddler’s little world. This is a part of the growing up process of your little one as they try to get adventurous and play by their own rule books. The toddlers do not have any sense of shame but rather have a powerful sense of exploration and insatiable curiosity. Here are some facts on toddlers weird behavior and why they do it.

1. Persistence of skilled hunter

A toddler has the persistence of a skilled hunter when it comes to certain things they have set their minds on. For instance, some toddlers will go on asking the question ‘why’ even after the parent has given a suitable answer to the query. This is just the toddler’s way of trying to figure out as to ‘why’ a certain explanation is given, which is contrary to his reasoning. This is the toddler’s way of trying to reason out the things and therefore, they will keep on asking the same question over and over again. Some toddlers might even pee in their pants if they are not allowed to use every public rest room in the shopping mall or elsewhere. This may be alright in home front but when this is carried right out in public, it can be quite daunting for the parents.

2. Imitate what they see and hear

Little toddlers have a habit of picking up certain behavior or swear words from older siblings, relatives or cousins. They are very attentive to what is happening around them and have a good memory to store up new habits that they may see others doing. This may range from crying every time in order to get their way, swearing as a way of asserting themselves or even hoarding up toys which do not belong to them. You may laugh at times about these things but you need to get serious with your toddler by letting him know that you do not approve of his new habits. You need to nip the habit in the bud as soon as possible.

3. Attraction to doors

Some toddlers can drive you up the wall with their constant need to open and close the doors and fiddling with the door knobs. Likewise, some are obsessed to open and close lids of cookie jars or even garbage cans, just to satiate their curiosity rather than touching the contents inside. Some will stand on tiptoe to open cupboard doors and shut them repeatedly. This is pretty annoying but a normal phase which will eventually grow out.

4. Hide ‘n’ seek to extremes

Some toddlers can really send you on a merry chase when it comes to hiding themselves. For some parents, this can be very stressful as toddlers can have a very astute sense of finding hiding places which you may overlook. Now, if you find them in no time then it is perfectly alright but if the search goes on, then you better set boundaries immediately. You must make the toddler understand that he or she can not go out of the house or even hide in dangerous places by setting boundaries within which they can play their games.

5. Running around naked

Another weird toddler behavior is the penchant for running around naked while you chase him to get dressed. Toddlers have no sense of shame and they will revel in the joy of running around in their birthday suits. It is liberating for them but a stressful and tiring situation for the parents. This may be alright once in a while but if this annoying habit of chasing after every bath time to get him into his pajamas, then it is time you take stock of the situation. Although this habit will go away but you need to discourage this as soon as possible.
