The world unveiling of the new eco-friendly Volvo Hybrid Double Deck buses took place in London. The historic venue of Alexander Palace in London presented a perfect backdrop signaling the launch of environment friendly hauling that are tasked to deliver services to Arriva London. Six Volvo hybrid double deck buses will provide services on Route 141 in UK’s capital city.
The Volvo B5L Hybrid Double Deck features the similar hybrid I-SAM technology, developed across the entire Volvo Group. The hybrid bus comes with a diesel engine and an electric motor, providing an option to power by either source independently or in combination drawing from both power sources simultaneously. It speeds up to 12 MPH in all-electric mode and the diesel engine comes into action in over that.
Although, no specific mention regarding the fuel economy, CO2 and Nitrous Oxides emissions has been provided so far, but it is expected to offer savings both in terms of fuel consumption and emissions. Also part of the on-going program across the entire Volvo Group is the Volvo 7700 Hybrid Single Deck introduced in Gothenburg that has been showing better results than expected by saving on the fuel economy by around 30%. Volvo’s efforts will certainly help improve the environment, save fuel and reduce traffic.
