Teach your children the importance of tolerance and correct values

Teach your children the importance of tolerance

There is no denying the fact that today hell lot of differences surround us, be it a difference in culture, ethnicity, caliber, status, language, personality, gender, religion, nation, disability, or any other difference, as the list seems to be endless. These differences call for a change in behavior as well. Sometimes even parents find it wayward to deal with people who have different cultural background altogether but they want their children to be tolerant towards everybody.

A major reason behind this expectation of many parents is the fact that they know their children can learn a lot if they mix up with people belonging to different cultures and religions. Parents know that if their children are tolerant towards other cultures and people with many differences, they can do wonders in business, art, education, travel, and lifestyle.

Parents now realize that to make their children’s future successful, it is of paramount importance that they step out of their comfort zone and they should be able to work in an environment with a high level of differences, be it a language difference, a cultural difference, or the difference of attitudes.

Children must learn to appreciate the differences in others rather than shutting themselves in a shell wherein they get everything similar to their own tastes and preferences. Therefore, tolerance is a value that is of utmost importance in children. Children learn this value right from their childhood through their parent’s efforts.

It is in parent’s hands to teach their children the true essence of tolerance, its proper and real sense. Parents must let the children know that tolerance is not about accepting someone’s bad behavior. A quality enables a person to accept people who they are, makes a person behave in the way the other person wants him to, and to give respect and appreciation to every person regardless of the differences.

Parents must also teach their children that they need not sacrifice their own beliefs in order to respect the beliefs of others. Rather tolerance is all about giving hundred percent respects to your beliefs and to the beliefs of others as well.

It is a well-known fact that kids are amazing imitators, and they imitate their parents a lot. If parents themselves portray a good level of tolerance then automatically the kid will learn the value of tolerance. Parents should portray a good level of tolerance in their conversation and behavior; the child will automatically grow up with the value to appreciate every single entity. Since childhood, parents should teach children the goodness of playing with everybody.

Kids are so full of questions regarding all sort of differences, they come up to their parents and ask numerous questions. When confronted with such situations, parents should respect their queries and should answer their questions honestly. Teach them how and why the differences exist and why is it important to value these differences.

Parents can choose certain programs, movies, stories, and games in which they value differences. Help your kids develop a high self esteem so that they not only respect others but themselves too. There is reason behind this, those children who feel good about themselves tend to be more courteous towards others.

Parents must expose their children to situations where diversity is present, like the sports, school, and public events. Parents should themselves learn and teach their children about numerous cultures and traditions that prevail throughout the nation and the world. If all the parents make these efforts to develop the value of tolerance in their children then the day is not far when the barriers created by numerous differences will vanish finally, eventually making earth a better place to live.
