Seven sparkling design ideas for girls’ bedrooms

A girl’s room is her private space where she dreams, laughs, sulks, ponders and has girl talk when her friends are over for a party. Although soft, the room should have oomph and funk. There are so many themes you can choose from. But, the most important part is planning and setting out the space with the right furnishing, addons and accessories. It’s up to you how much you want to splurge. But, it is the best to cut down your budget as the little girl will soon outgrow the teeny stuff.

1. The backdrop

Demure but eye catching hues that pop out are fancied by all girls. Do up the room in a pretty pink, dreamy blue, posy purple, sunny yellow, gorgeous green, or cherry red. Paint walls in contrasting colors or souse them with spray paint. You can also try wall stickers, murals or cloth-work with butterflies, flowers, animals, etc.

2. Themes for the decor

A fairytale or princess theme is really sassy. You can have a small castle, chariot, unicorns, knights, dragons, fairies, etc with dreamy soft colors and glitter dust. Another great theme which is the in thing now is to go Victorian – lush fabrics, candle stands, antiques, vanity and a dresser will do the trick here.

3. Bed and bedding

Position the bed in a corner and keep a small nightstand and bookcase close by. The bedding should be cozy and comfy with a lot of fluffy pillows and cushions thrown around. Drape the bed with a mosquito net or linen. For a lush get up choose brocade or velvet on the bedding. For a down to earth feel – go for linen or cotton.

4. Ceiling that stands out

Suspended lights from the ceiling are great. If you have chosen a vintage or Victorian theme, think of a grand chandelier right in the middle. Budget friendly options are paper lanterns, wind chimes, silk crafts, etc. Glow in the dark stars and figures on the ceiling are exquisite.

5. Things you cannot do without

You do want to encourage learning so make space for a study table, book shelves and you can even put up a whiteboard or a giant sized world map. Ample closet space and shelves are a must. Throw a simple woven rug or carpet on the floor. Curtains made of airy fabrics or even of more affordable beads and shells look good.

6. Dresser and mirror

The space where your lassie will deck is very special. Buy a giant sized mirror with silver frames and drape it with curtains to jazz up the effect. Wrought iron and crystal around the dressers are a good idea if you have a Gothic or Victorian theme.

7. Accessories

A nightstand and lampshade are some must have trinkets. Large decorative baskets or flower vases are for a chic gal. You can also try stacking up old records, guitar, painted smiley faces, etc. If you have too much to brag about then showcase her trophies and cups on a mantle and frame her certificates. Set out her collection of shells, ballet shoes, stamps, etc.
