Solon SE, a Berlin-based solar company, proudly exhibits their zero-emission solar powered ship called the SOLON. The unveiling was done at a ceremony, which was graced by the presence of Berlin’s Mayor Klaus Wowereit. The SOLON has a capacity for 60 passengers and is the first for Berlin that derives its power from solar energy.
Solon SE is known for manufacturing photovoltaic modules integrated self-produced solar panels on the eco-friendly passenger ship’s rooftop and generates a total of 5.6 kWp of electricity. SolarWaterWorld AG, which has been researching and manufacturing solar run ships for a good 17 years now, is the manufacture and operator of the SOLON. Apart from the green ship, they also boast of owing the world’s first solar charging station for solar-powered boats in the Kopenick district of Berlin.
The green passenger ship will offer environmentally friendly tours of Berlin and short cruise trips. The SOLON will act as a savior for both the tourists and the environment with its zero-emission transportation.
