Solar-Powered Bus Shelters: STM shows positive intent

In a bid to go green, STM (the Société de transport de Montréal) proposes to promote the use of solar energy by attaching solar panels to its buses. These solar powered panels, attached to bus shelters, will generate electricity to charge the batteries and the lighting systems. It’s not the first instance of its type. London, Vancouver, and Toronto have already been a part of the faction. Though these shelters may cost about $30,000 each, yet STM seems hopeful to adopt this green technology. Won’t say it’s still a concept! Asking designers to develop blueprints as to how these shelters should look like, Montreal’s resolve is beyond a shadow of doubt. Aiming to install 100 new shelters each year, Montreal might be able to make all its buses fully solar-powered by the end of 2013.
