Shopping tips to buy kid’s winter coats

Kids love summers for obvious reasons. Summer vacations are great to have fun when they are away from studies and homework. The other reason is that they need to wear minimal clothing as it is too hot. A majority of kids find winter clothes confining and uncomfortable. The situation turns worse when they are made to wear the heavy and hefty winter coats that are even heavier than their own weight. Choosing winter coats for kids can be almost as difficult as getting your children to actually wear them. To make this tedious process easier, here are five important tips to choose the appropriate winter coats.

1. Determine your kid’s correct size

Different kids grow at different rates and the process is gradual. Do not make an attempt to buy large sized coats for your kids as many of the parents think that the same coat can be worn by the kids the next year as well. The coats that are larger than the actual size of the kid are very uncomfortable to wear. The coat should not be too small that it gets tight to wear; the length of the sleeves should reach till the wrist and it should be snug. There should be enough space for the kid to wear other clothing like sweater and other winter clothes under the coat.

2. Set the right budget

The price of the coat primarily depends upon the stuff and fabric of the coat. Simple lined jackets are not too expensive whereas goose down jackets on the other hand are the one which are not so cheap when compared to the lined jackets. Set a budget that suits you and your choice. Setting a fixed budget in prior will help you not to get tempted to look for other heavy priced jackets in the market.

3. Think about the climate as well

If your winters are endowed with ice and snow, then make it very sure that the coats are provided with extra insulation. At the same time, also make it sure that the coat does not have a tendency to saturate at a faster rate and especially when the kid makes a plan with his friends to go out and play in the snow and build snowmen with them. If you live in the area where winters are rainy then hunt down for the coats that are waterproof and have a good length so that the bottom of the kid also gets covered. Hoods are also important, especially if the winters are rainy in a particular area.

4. Let your kids have a say on style

It’s the kid who is going to wear the coat that you are purchasing. It is important that the kid likes his coat. So, make it sure that you also pay heed to the choice of your kid. Girls are fond of feminine colors which include purple and pink. Girls also like the coats that have hoods which are lined with fur or have rhinestones. On the other hand, boy’s coats are provided with lots of pockets and they also prefer bright colors. Winter coats for boys are particularly designed for play unlike girls. If your kid picks the one which is a bit more expensive with a good quality, buy it. Do not tell him that you don’t like the color and the design. But if you do not reach to a conclusion simply, just ask your child to choose a hat or a scarf of his choice. When you are buying something expensive, you should also take care of the choice of your child because if he doesn’t wear it later, you might repent of having your money got wasted on an item that your kid dislikes.

5. Consider an option of purchasing two coats

If you are an inhabitant of an area where the climate changes swiftly then it becomes crucial that you keep spare options in hand. This is because the child might need one coat for spring and for the fall as well and the other one to wear during the winters. The coat for proper winters should have a warm and heavy stuff. There are some winter coats for children that come with liners which can be detached from the coat and can be worn at the time when it is not too cold. This is a great alternative that serves your child in two seasons. A few coats are convertible and there are some others in which hoods can also be removed.
