Everyone talks about the joy and charm of being a mother when a woman is pregnant. Often forgotten is the fact that a father is also re born when a child is born. Although there are some little things that can make you not just a father, but a great dad! Being a great dad to your kids is a lifelong commitment in each and every step of life. It is not only about looking after your kids and wife, but much more than that. You have to work really hard, but in the long run you will realize that it is a rewarding experience. You may have to take many decisions in your parenthood that may be liked or may not be liked by your kids. Overall, your job as a dad is quite demanding but worth it.

Here are some secrets and tips that will help you become a great dad.

A: Always be there for them. You need to be there for your kids when they need you. Try to take out time from your work and other commitments and give time for your kids and wife.

B: Be open to them. Do not restrict your feelings to yourselves. Express your love as much as you express your anger. Your kids will surely understand and learn to know you better.

C: Care for them. You love them a lot but caring them is a step further to let them know your feelings. Moms need not show their care all the time as they have that natural bonding with kids. Being a dad you need to show your care to the kids.

D: Don’t loose patience. It pays a long way. It is easy to loose your temper while tackling kids and their behavior sometimes. Remember that showing your anger may not be a good idea. Kids may not like it. Go for a walk or sit quietly for sometime. It may help you in keeping your patience levels.

E: Encourage them. You need to do this often. Your kids need your support for whatever they do in life. Encourage them to do things that they can and want to do. It will bring a positive attitude in them.

F: Feed them occasionally. You are busy with your work most of the time. Try your hand on feeding your kids on weekends at least. Try to know what they like to eat. You can even cook for them.

G: Go out with them. Taking the kids out may be a good idea. You can do this in evenings or plan a day out on weekends. Kids love the time they spend with their dad.

H: How can you forget finances? Let your kids know about it. This will let them understand the basics from the beginning. These facts will come to help when they learn to be independent in life. Let them know about what saving is and how it helps in life.

I: Be Imaginative dad for them. Show them your imagination and creativity. Try your hands on their school projects. Create some thing out of your imagination. This will let them explore their surroundings and they will also become creative.

J: Be Jovial to them. Spending a quality time is essential. You need to be fun for your kids when they spend time with you. You have to be strict to them many times, but learn to be jovial too.

K: Know them. You should know what is going around in their lives. Kids will have little secrets. It may be because they are scared to tell you. Be friends to them and know what they think and feel.

L: Love them. Show it often. Whatever the situation is, love your kids. You may be upset but don’t let that feeling come out.

M: Model a good behavior to them. You are their role model. They learn from you. They will imitate your behavior, how you treat others, how you talk, how you walk etc. It is necessary that you show a good behavior so that they learn the best from you.

N: ‘No’ is also needed. You cannot always let the kids do what they want. You have to be tough sometimes and make hard decisions. You need to tell your kids what’s right and what’s wrong. It starts from a simple ‘no’ for things that they should not be doing. You may sound hard but it is okay.

O: Occasionally do what their mom does. They will like it. It is okay to change diapers, give baths, etc. This change of duties will also create a special bonding between you and kids.

P: Play with them. Do this often whenever you get time. This should be a free play. Do not restrict them to TV and computer games. Let them open their minds and have fun.

S: Stand with the ‘mom’. Parents should not contradict each other especially in front of kids. Learn to take decisions beforehand and finish off any arguments prior to telling them to your kids. They should not get the feel that mom and dad have separate views. Be a team in front of them.

T: Treat your spouse with respect. It is necessary. If you don’t show appropriate behavior, they will also imitate you.

U: Understand what they want to say. Don’t always force your decisions on your kids. Listen what they want to say and understand their feelings too.

V: Values. Inculcate good values in kids from the beginning. Don’t lie in front of them. Often parents talk about others, good or bad, in front of their kids. They forget that kids learn what they see.

W: Work out for them. Stay healthy and exercise daily. You need to be a healthy dad for being a better dad. Right? After all you have to be there when they need you.

X: X factor? You don’t really need an extra factor to be a super dad. Be strong as your kids rely on you for every thing. You may have to be tough and hard in front of kids while facing the challenges of life.

Y: You be good to yourself. Don’t forget who you are. You need to look after yourself for being available to them.
