Back-to-School Fashion For Kids

Who says fashion is for adults only? Kids today have right to look stylish, to look good. Also, gone are those days when a child could manage to wear absolutely anything and run away hiding their faces in their backpack. Fashion fever has got the better of our young members too and all we can say is, ‘Why not?’

In her song, Raise Your Glass, Pink asks if you’re ”too school for cool”. Well, with the latest craze of plaid and the school-girl look, we very emphatically answer her with a yes! Not only are checkered shirts and tunics in vogue this season for children to wear after school reopens, but have also become the rage among older women and men alike.

Here’s a list of ‘Mom-I-must-have-these’ in my closet:

1. Hats

Hats off to the girl who accessorizes her outfit with head dress, even if she is not having a bad hair day. If you are having a bad time with your hair, good for you. Tuck it under the hat.

Be it the cloche or the tuque, hats have a very youthful effect on the entire ensemble. They make you look chic, without much effort. Ensure you have at least a few in your child’s closet.

2. Backpacks

All right, back to basics. The school bag is an essential accessory every kid has to carry. Who says we have to be boring and dull with the backpack? Surely, it is indispensable for the average school kid, but why not up the glamour quotient on this one?

First of all, choose your backpack well. See what suits your kid’s style and age. For children in the age group of 6 to 10, funky, fluorescent colors are recommended ,stylized with stickers of their favorite celebrities or cartoons. For our teenagers, we have a wider range of options. Either choose the ordinary shaped backpack and accessorize it well with key chains, hanging around the side pockets. Our young ladies may also use the adult big hand bag and glamorize its handle with funky bangles to make it look attractive.

Material matters. This fall, denim is ‘the’ thing. Use bags made of denim because they are both fashionable and practical.

If you are interested in experimenting with size and shapes, go for the sling-bag or the satchel. Very stylish, very school-girlish, this bag can get you all the attention you want.

3. T-shirts

Make sure your child’s wardrobe is filled with cute tees which are both comfortable, easy-to-wear and look good at the same time. We are not talking about old, boring basic tees, which are worn for the sake of being worn. No, purchase tees in almost all your basic colors and personalize them with your child’s name or the jersey number of their favorite sports-star and even with a picture of the Barbie doll for our little girls.

For daughters, make sure you have tees in different neck styles including the V-neck and the turtle-neck as must haves.

T-shirts are very economical and one of the most important parts of kids’ fashion. They can be washed easily because kids are prone to making a mess.

Not hyperbole when we state that our beloved tees are almost as indispensable as the backpack.

4. Sweaters

Autumn, not winter. We know. However, sweaters are a rage this season. Not happy with the tee, no problem! Do not hide it, but doll it up with a cute sweater. Taking inspiration from the trench coat, we thought we needed something over our clothes to give the body a little bit of volume and fashionable.

The length of your sweater may vary. Opt for a longer cardigan for a chic look.

Not warmed up to the idea of a sweater? Better yet, put on the sweat-shirt. Different neck, different attitude, this sweat-shirt worn with a skirt will make the boys drool.

5. Denim and plaid

Blue and checkered, we think denim and plaid are the materials you cannot afford to miss this season, especially if you are going back to school. Denim is our beloved material. It is hassle free, easy to put on, comfortable and very sexy.

Well, you see models walking down the ramp as school-girls. Why not reverse this? Wear plaid. It is by far the ‘material of the season’. Checkered dresses and shirts will make your child look smart both fashionwise and otherwise.

6. Shoes

We do not wish for your child to be left wondering, ”What if I were in her shoes?” No. We want you to hoard sneakers and ballerina shoes for your little bundles of joy.

Boys may prefer the new kicks that are manly and sporty to look at. That goes for our tom-boys, too.

Others may prefer something sleeker and more delicate like the ballerina. These are flat and hence ideal for school. Our little Ballerinas, dance away to school and thank us for the steps.

Try not to waste a lot of time getting your child ready for school, but make sure you help them get out of home, looking confident and smart as the morning sun shines over their bright heads.
