The Chinese love for shark fins has nearly brought the mammal to extinction. To preserve the species and at the same time, to cater to the Chinese cuisine of shark fins, the Japanese food processing company Nicco Yuba Seizo Co has come up with their unique product – artificial shark fins.
The artificial shark fins are made from pork gelatin and are said to be as scrumptious as the original. Further, artificial shark fins cost only one-tenth of the real one, making it suitable for every pocket.
Despite of environmentalists’ campaign against ‘fining,’ when the fishermen catch sharks and cut off their fins and through the carcass back to the sea, shark fins continue to remain the luxurious delicacy for the Chinese. Such is their love for the dish that an appeal by the famous Chinese basketball star Yao Ming to boycott the dish did not work.
The top officials of the Nicco Yuba Seizo Co. have visited a trade fair in the Chinese city of Guangzhou, and found people over enthusiastic with their product. At last, we hope a way has been found which will save the sharks from extinction and at the same time satisfy the Chinese palate.
