The not so usual places for a birdy to build its nest

Mobile nests

Like human beings even birds need a home. They too need a place where they can lay and hatch their eggs. Due to urban development, the poor creatures are left with very few options of building a secure nest. But birds are smart and they have found and built nests in some of the most unusual places.

  1. Perching on a statue

Men have cut down trees and instead of planting trees have raised statues. But our smart friends have built nests on these statues as well. They have formed a crowning glory on the head of human statue or you may also find them staying peacefully on the back of a statue of an animal; a bird.

Birds build nests on vehicles as well. It could be the basket of your bicycle or even the top of your branded cars. In the literal sense, these are mobile nests. There have been instances where these birds have even built homes in the car engine of a broken down car which was left unattended for many days.

  1. Post a nest

One of the best places that these birds choose to build their nests is a post box. The tiny opening to put the letters is sufficient for small birds to enter and make it their home. Their tiny eyes peep from the post box to look around if it is safe to come out when they see a potential danger round the corner.

Birds have also built their nests on lamp posts. They build nests and lay eggs in these lamp posts. While lamp posts still sound a bit ok there have been cases where they have perched on large wind chimes on the doors of houses and laid eggs on the wind chimes base.

  1. Old is gold

Things that seem useless for you are of lots of importance for these birds. They comfortably build nests in old shoe boxes or old broken cups and tea pots that you may have left in the garden. Yes of course and the plant pots are especially for our birdy friends to lay their eggs and rest.

  1. Bird in a bin

Next time when you put a cigarette in a bin watch out because our feathered friends just love building their nests in these cigarette bins.

Birds can adapt to changes around them and their act of building nests in the most unusual places is the best example of their adaptability. With human beings leaving very few options for them the poor things are left with no other choice but to try out these unique options.
