Dr Kerry Kirwan, Dr Steve Maggs and Dr James Meredith of University of Warwick have created a car, named “WorldFirst Formula 3 racing car”.
The Green car
The car runs on biofuel derived out of chocolate waste and vegetable oils. The entire car is designed and built from sustainable and renewable materials. The steering wheel is made out of plant-based fibers derived out of carrots and other root vegetables, and the seat is built from flax fiber and soybean oil. The body is also made from plant fibers.
Features
The creators claim that this will be the fastest car, with a top speed of 145 mph, to run on bio fuels and also the fastest made from bio-degradable materials.
The car will be tested on the race tracks in a few weeks and will be displayed at the European Grand Prix and Britain’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. This car fulfills all the formula 3 specifications, other than the bio diesel specification.

• Dirty Diapers Turned into Viable Diesel
AMEC, of Quebec, Canada has a brilliant idea for transforming diapers, what would normally be landfill material into cost-effective, synthetic diesel fuel. Approximately 30,000 tons of diapers will be annually transformed into over 10,000 tons of diesel fuel at jut 50 cents per liter.
• The Cafe Racer Truck Runs on 100% Recycled Coffee Grounds
The café racer truck is a 1975 GMC pickup that essentially burns up used coffee to create combustible gas. The gas is filtered on its way to the engine and, voila, you have a caffeine-powered truck.
• Confiscated Booze Converted into Bus-Powering Biogas
Swedish authorities confiscate nearly 200,000 gallons of smuggled alcohol each year. Instead of simply pouring it down the drain, authorities have come up with an alternative win-win situation for themselves. The biogas created from the mixed cocktail of smuggled goods is used to power a variety of vehicles, including buses and a train.
• Wood gas is a fuel
Wood gas is produced from the process in which the carbon containing material or biomass is converted into gas. It may not be the most ecological power innovation in this list but it is at least an example of thinking of ways to run vehicles on anything but fossil fuels – a step in the right direction.
• One person’s liposuction is another person’s biodiesel fuel
Biodiesel can be produced from either plant oils or animal fat. One such example is a bio diesel speed boat, which was powered in part by liposuctioned human fat.
