Hutton suggests cut on renewable energy targets: Is Labour party playing politics with Mother Earth?

Hutton suggests cut on renewable energy targets

In the past couple of days, some very vital & disturbing environmental issues re-surfaced. One addressed content of the ever growing greenhouse gases in Earth’s atmosphere, while the other looked at how the oceans & woods were loosing their ability to absorb CO2 & act as a sink. While the former might quite obviously be an effect of the later phenomenon, it’s interesting to note that both the reports shout out at a need to use alternate, clean sources of energy. So what does one of the leading nations of the world do as a response to these troubling reports? Well, of course, it just thinks about rolling back its commitment towards a cleaner future & plans to cut down on investing in the alternate sources of energy. Don’t rub your eyes or re-read the above sentence. That is exactly the way Britain seems to be going.

Well done Mr. Gordon Brown, you do have one heck of a ministry there working for you. It has not been even 24 hours since scientists from UK (how ironic is that?) have stated the looming danger by quantifying their research spanning over a decade & you think of cost cuts & nuclear energy.

In a document leaked to The Guardian (& let me take a moment here to say that is still don’t understand how such high profile documents just happen to fall in the hands of media) it is clearly stated that Brown’s ministry are planning to recommend strongly to the prime minister that he should back down from the earlier commitment made to EU about achieving 20% alternate fuel energy share by 2020. If you remember, Tony Blair did sign an agreement which said that EU would work 20% of all its energy coming from renewable resources. The step was hailed by one & all then. John Hutton, Secretary of State for Business, would advice Gordon about how ‘practically impossible’ such a target is to achieve.

Make no mistake people; there is plenty of politics behind all this. Gordon will have to ask the Navy to use more tidal & off-shore wind energy for its purposes. Hutton sees this impractical. Moreover the Treasury under Gordon made the European emission trading scheme. This scheme was devised by the Treasury under Brown and allows wealthy governments to pay others to reduce emissions. The scheme looks at using nuclear energy & Gordon along with Hutton, seem to be in a great hurry to move the nuclear energy program forward as soon as possible.

I just get the feeling that apart from indifference towards commitment to environmental causes, this is also Gordon Brown & his cabinet trying to stamp their mark on Britain & Europe. This is what happens when power gets transferred. Remember Rocky V? Yes, that movie of Stallone where he coaches Tommy Gun to win the title. Tommy wants to really prove his mettle by beating the great Italian Stallion. Same thing here folks or so it seems to me. Gordon wants to somehow put his legacy over that of Blair.

Maybe we are reacting too early. But I think it’s necessary. If this global backlash can prevent & kill this idea to back out from an important deal, then we have all done our little part in saving the planet. This is not politics Mr. Gordon. Commit yourself towards a better future. I still don’t get the insane obsession of this guy & his cabinet for nuclear power. When you have better options, why don’t you embrace them? Let me tell you; you can build the safest nuclear plant in the world. But it can all go wrong easily & in the blink of an eye-lid neither will your government nor your ministry live to see another day Mr. Gordon. So think again. (& make a decision that will let me continue calling you ‘Mr. Gordon’)!
