Home Remedies for Treating Head Lice Problems

lice infestation

Lice problem is a real serious thing. Apart from the discomfort it causes to the person, it also poses a high risk of infections. It is advisable to get your head rid of lice as soon as you see them increasing in number. There are many medically acclaimed ways by which one can address this problem of head lice. In addition to this, there are plenty of different and effective home remedies too that one can try simultaneously. Have a look at some of these remedies to see which suits you the best:

Vinegar and coconut oil:

Coconut-oil

A combination of vinegar and coconut oil will benefit your lice-control treatment like nothing else can. Use a mixture of vinegar and coconut oil in the ratio 1:1. Apply it on your scalp, and leave it overnight. Wash your hair the first thing in the morning. Continue this for every alternate day till no more lice and its eggs remain in your hair scalp. You can even use plain warm coconut oil, or vinegar mixed with water. It is quite an effective remedy, and is definitely worth a shot.

Olive oil:

Olive oil is the first and foremost thing that comes to mind when speaking of lice removal techniques. Use pure olive oil and cover your entire scalp with it. Wear a shower cap or wrap your head in a soft cotton cloth and leave it overnight.  Lice don’t grow very well in the vicinity of olive oil. Cleanse your hair thoroughly next morning with lukewarm water. Repeat this twice every week, and see tremendous improvement in your lice-removal process.

Petroleum jelly:

Petroleum-Jelly

Believe it or not, petroleum jelly works wonders when it comes to dealing with lice. Cover your entire scalp with a layer of petroleum jelly right before you hit the bed. Take care to not cover your hair in it. Use baby oil or coconut oil in the morning to remove the layer of jelly. The lice will follow and will leave your scalp sooner than you can expect.

Neem oil:

Neem-leaves

Neem is insanely popular for its medicinal benefits. It should come as no surprise that it is quite capable of removing lice too. Add a few drops of neem oil to your regular shampoo and use it as usual. Use neem oil with your shampoo regularly until this problematic issue does not get out of your way. You can even use a neem-based shampoo, but adding neem oil to your shampoo is a better alternative. The measure is simple, yet effective. Lice loathe neem, and will be gone before you can fathom.

Recommended natural shampoos:

There are plenty of shampoos available in the market which are specifically designed to rid your hair of lice. Consult your doctor and start using these medicinal products. But, before you do so, make sure that they are prepared from natural ingredients so that no adverse effects take place further. Remember to brush your hair after you shower to remove lice remains from your head.

Other measures:

comb

In addition to these, one can undertake other measures to make sure that this problem gets solved quicker and better:

  • Have a separate set of combs for the person with lice. Other family members mustn’t be using these combs.
  • Sleep separately. Do not share pillows or hair accessories.
  • No matter how tempting it may seem, do not scratch off your head like it’s your last day.
  • After every wash, run a comb through your hair, while it still wet, to get rid of the remains of lice. Wet combing is very effective to draw out lice from your scalp.

Even though the above measures are quite effective and useful, they are not all. You can always try and experiment with other measures of lice-control, but not before consulting your doctor. Lice in your head is harmful not just for you, but also for the people around you. They are quite a risk of contracting lice themselves. Though it is not a pretty easy process, it is quite possible.

Do whatever helps you sail your boat, and at the earliest.
