Hilary Swank bows global race for safe drinking water

After Leonardo DiCaprio, Schwarzenegger, it is now the turn for the two-time Oscar winning ‘Boys Don’t Cry” and “Million Dollar Baby’ actor Hilary Swank, to extend a healing hand to the nature’s woes.

She has launched an around-the-world relay race on Friday for the cause of the environment. Yes, the money that will be raised by this relay race will be used in spreading awareness for 1.1 billion people suffering form safe drinking water crisis across the world.

The more-than 95 days race will be marked by some 20 runners, who will log 15,200 miles through 16 Northern Hemisphere countries and will be ending back in New York on September 4.

Organized by the Blue Planet Run Foundation, the race is funded by Dow Chemical Co. in cooperation with the United Nations and Blue Planet in a bid to bring safe drinking water to 20 billion people by 2020.

On the U.N. lawn of runners, schoolchildren and musicians, Swank said,

What if it were your job to carry in a rusty metal pail all the water you and your family would use for the day? What if the water made you sick? What if you had no choice?

I know I will never take a glass of water for granted again.

Keeping the pace for 24 hours, seven days a week, the runners will travel 15,200 miles, with each running 750 miles. Hope their energy, labor, and hopes get the deserved justice to the cause of the water crisis prevailing across the world.
