Greenpeace compares Amazon rainforest with a field of matchsticks

Greenpeace Switzerland has produced an intriguing animation that shows how the Amazon rainforests and others are fast disappearing. Not only is it affecting the forest cover, but also the ecosystems, including numerous species and their habitats. Sumatran orangutans are now 91% less in number than what they used to be in 1991. Majorly attributed to agricultural development and logging, the human callousness has always hampered the efforts to restore some normalcy. Consequently, almost 17 percent of the Amazon rainforest and 74 million hectares of Indonesian forests are blotted out of existence.
