If you are crazy after that potato delicacy or a toss of peanuts onto your desserts, then slowly grow the habit of not having them around anymore, anywhere soon. Global warming may soon be gobbling down all those wild varieties of plants.

It is by just mid-century, – global warming may drive many wild plant varieties, especially like that of potatoes and peanuts.

To fight this foreseen phenomenon, a group of experts from across the world have urged governments to act immediately to preserve the wild relatives of crops both in nature as well as in seed banks – especially the traits that might help modern crops resist pests or diseases.

Annie Lane, one of three authors of the study issued on May 22, the U.N.’s International Biodiversity Day said,

A number of wild species will be highly threatened by climate change — they are losing areas suitable as their habitat.

Global warming is feared to wipe out up to 61 percent of 51 wild peanut species and 12 percent of 108 wild potato species in just the next 50 years!

So, we need to work “now” on curbing the greenhouse gas-emissions we release each day by burning fossil fuels, which leads to global warming. And, in our own bits, we can help save the wild plant varieties our diet depends on.
