Fun at Orlando with kids

Orlando, located in Orange County in Florida, is one of the biggest cities of USA. For most people, Orlando brings up the image of various theme parks like Walt Disney World but the city has much more to offer than just this. It receives more than 52 million tourists each year and a sizable population comprises of kids of various ages. The city is known for its theme parks, dinner attractions and the shopping options.

Why visit?

Orlando enjoys a great climate, boasts of some wonderful attractions and tons of other things to do which can be enjoyed by families with kids. The main reason people come to Orlando are the theme parks. Disney World is the ever popular one but not to be left behind is the Animal Kingdom Theme Park, Epcot, SeaWorld and Disney-MGM studios. If you are visiting Orlando for the weekend then pick just one theme park. You can take a break in the afternoon and go back in the evening for the fireworks. The kids will love Magic Kingdom and SeaWorld while the teens will love Universal Studios. The good thing is that all the theme parks have innovative play areas for the young ones.

What to see?

1. Magic Kingdom Park

The Magic Kingdom Park at Disney World is a classic. It is not humanely possible to cover the whole park in one day. You must get hold of a map and make a plan to tour the park and include those which you would not want to miss. You can get a ‘FAST-PASS’ timed ticket for the popular rides.

2. Epcot Center

This will be a remarkable experience for the kids who can enjoy the food, music and the landmarks of different countries. When the kids visit the Epcot they get an inspiration to travel to foreign countries or make their own inventions. The kids can also pick up authentic souvenirs from each country in the World Showcase Shops.

3. Disney’s Animal Kingdom

You can opt for the African Safari and kids will enjoy seeing the lions, elephants and the zebras in the wild. The park has six main theme namely – Africa, Rafiki’s Planet Watch, Asia, DinoLand USA, Discovery Island and Camp Minnie-Mickey. There are rides and live shows in each of the themed divisions.

4. Disney’s Hollywood Studios

This is perfect for kids who are excited to know all about the behind-the-scenes stuff and the exciting Disney animation. Kids will like the Voyage and the Little Mermaid musical show. Don’t forget to take them to the ‘I Shrunk the Kids’ play area. The older kids can go for the ‘Star Tours’ which is actually a simulator ride on a StarSpeeder Spaceship.

5. SeaWorld Adventure Park

If you want to enjoy the wonders of aquatic world then a visit to the SeaWorld is must. Get close with the shamu killer whales, the dolphins and the penguins. The Manatee Rescue exhibit is a top draw as it houses the manatees, the ‘gentle giants’ of the sea. You can view them on the surface or under the water and there is also a theater presentation about these endangered species.

Things you must do

If you are visiting Orlando for the first time, then the first place that you need to see is Walt Disney World. The iconic structures like Cinderella’s Castle and Spaceship Earth should not be missed under any pretext. The Pirates Dinner Adventure is a once in a lifetime opportunity to participate in an adventure show and at the same time enjoy a sumptuous dinner. The special effects and the daring sword play will enthrall the kids.

Budget

Visiting Orlando is never cheap. You are likely to pay high prices for food in the theme parks. If you plan to stay in Orlando then there are a number of budget hotels near the Main Gate. You can get discounted rooms in August as four-star hotels will charge around $100/night. But do not stay in Apopka, if you plan to visit Walt Disney World. Apart from food and stay, you will also need to shell out money for the toll gates while driving into Orlando and theme park entry tickets. However, you can save a lot of money by making advance reservations in the hotels and using a GO Orlando Card. Many hotels even offer free transportation to the theme park from the hotel.
