First affordable rental housing development with solar power offset

borrego solar 9True, using the sun to power the lights is always a dream of an environmentalist and good for the environment, and precisely to reduce the demands for energy. But, their installation has never been so easy on everyone’s pocket!

But, here is a better paradigm to encourage mass transformation to solar power as an alternative to fossil powered electricity. Satellite Housing, Inc., with its first solar power installation has proved just that!

Yes, it has installed a 17-unit affordable housing development in Walnut Creek for Acalanes Court, California, making it Satellite’s first affordable rental housing development for families with children.

The photovoltaic system services of the building have a power of 35 kW and can produce approximately 4200 kWh of electricity each month.

Thanks to the Borrego Solar’s Berkeley team for designing the system. Using 204 Sharp 170 modules and 6 SMA 6000 inverters, the systems are made compatible with the building’s existing roof mounts.

Shamir Chauhan, Project Manager said,

By utilizing solar, we’re able to insulate the building’s operating costs from the fluctuations of the energy market and also lower our environmental impact.

Installing such systems is nothing new for the world of alternative energies. What made the systems hit the headline is their not just being energy-efficient, but also their reliability and being cost-effective.
