Decades ago, the only field you could really go into as a scientist was becoming a doctor/medical professional. Engineers were limited to creating things like buildings and bridges. And technology was limited. One hundred years ago, there weren’t even computers or cellular phones. Wireless technology didn’t exist, and the idea of a computer would’ve been seen as witchcraft. Things have come a long way in that time.

Now there are computers the size of a grain of rice and skyscrapers can be erected in less than 5 years in some cases. The field of science, technology, and engineering have expanded, which means that there are so many different careers for people with a scientific mind. 1. Biotechnology

The convergence of the field of biology with technology is mind-blowing. Prosthetic limbs that are responsive were once unheard of. Now scientists are discovering ways to connect these limbs to your nervous system in a way that allows them to be fully functional. The creation of nanobots means that it may be possible for a tiny robot to clear out clogged arteries instead of putting patients through invasive and dangerous surgeries.

Stem cell research is proving to offer a variety of treatment options that include vision and hearing. Some people now have better senses simply through the use of adult stem cell technology. Careers in biotechnology are increasing more and more. As the medical field sees the benefits of using newer treatment options instead of the same old ones from decades ago, they will start implementing some of these as the first option and not a last resort.

You may find yourself learning about the best chemicals to preserve a food product that needs to be shelf stable. Or you could find yourself splicing genes into a plant to make it more drought tolerant in regions where there isn’t as much water.

Food scientists create new recipes that make all the flavors blend perfectly together. Think about your favorite fast-food chicken nuggets. Why is it that the sauces from that restaurant taste so good with only those nuggets? On any other nugget, they aren’t quite as good. This is food science at its best. Food scientists created all the products from that restaurant to taste a certain way altogether. And when put on any other product, they are not quite the same.
