Essential baby furniture for newborns

A baby in a family is a bundle of joy and parents do a lot of preparation when the baby arrives so that the baby is comfortable and they are able to manage the baby easily. One of the aspects which receives a lot of attention is buying furniture for the baby. There are several options available in the market and baby furniture options are also marketed heavily. Due to this, making a choice regarding baby furniture becomes very difficult and parents become quite confused. While making a decision regarding the baby’s furniture you will buy keep in mind that the furniture should be comfortable and convenient for the baby and makes your life easier.

The following are a few of the baby furniture you should consider while buying furniture for your baby.

1. Car seat for babies

This is one of the most important furniture you will have to buy for your baby. It might be the first furniture your baby will use as the hospitals will not allow you to take the baby home unless you have a car seat for the baby. Car seats for babes serve dual purpose, they can be used as car seats as well as baby carrier (can carry baby up to 20 lbs). Avoid buying a used car seat as car seats which are older than 8 years are not safe.

2. Bassinet or crib

According to The American Academy of Pediatrics it is advisable that your baby sleeps in your room. This ensures safest of the baby and it is easy to feed your baby at night. So, parents use a crib which can be either kept in a separate room or can be moved to the parents’ room. Bassinet is another option parents prefer because in a bassinet the child feels warm, protected and safe in a womb like environment. Crib or bassinet is not required immediately when a baby is born. But, it is suggested that you buy crib or bassinet first. The reason being that there are fewer options in baby cribs. So, after you have bought the crib or bassinet you can choose the other furniture as per your budget. If your budget is less, you can avoid spending on a baby bassinet. Instead, you can put a comfortable blanket in the crib and it will give the comfy effect of a bassinet. While selecting a crib or bassinet you should ensure that it adheres to the safety standards. If you want your baby to be close to you at night you can also go for a co-sleeper which can be attached to your bed.

3. Changing table

Changing table is a table where you can change your baby’s diaper. Choose a place that can be cleaned easily. Do not leave your baby unattended on the changing table. If you buy a changing table ensure that it is stable and has safety straps. You will be using these straps when you will change baby’s diapers.

4. Storage place to store the baby’s cloths

Look for chest having drawers to store your baby’s items and cloths. The drawers should be such that they can be easily slide in and out.

5. Stroller

Stroller will come handy when you will take your baby for a walk around the neighborhood or park. It can also be used to take the baby to the doctor for regular checkups. Taking babies for a walk gives dual benefits. One is that babies love the motion of the stroller and the other is that walking is a good exercise for you. Choose a stroller which has larger wheels, cup holders and also compartments for keeping purses, bags and phones.

6. Infant swing

This is not a necessary furniture. But, it is very useful when babies do not sleep at night. At such times swing proves to be very beneficial. Before using the swing ensure that you strap your baby properly when you put him in the swing. If money is not a problem, you can also go for the glider. A glider is sort of modern rocking chair. The price of gliders ranges from $200 to $ 1500.

7. Diaper pail

When babies dirty the diapers, diapers need to be disposed in such a manner that the odor does not spreads. Diaper pail which has a lid comes handy to dispose spoiled diapers and minimizes odor. Choose a diaper pail which can be opened by foot pedal. This will keep your hand free to hold the baby whole you dump the diaper in it.
