Different Parenting Styles and their Effects on Children’s Behavior

How your children grown up to become adults depends on your parenting style. The way you raise your kids is the way they grow to shape up their respective futures. For instance, take a look at some common parenting styles and their effects on children. Find out what you need to do as a parent to follow the perfect parenting style to transform your children into successful leaders of tomorrow.

Authoritarian Parenting

Authoritarian parenting pertains to a dominant style wherein parents tend to emphasize total control over their children via rules and the necessity to adhere to the same. Parents in this category do not believe in spoiling the child at all and dictate life for them. As such, children brought up by authoritarian parents tend to lack critical communication skills that would help them socialize in public and become leaders. Furthermore, these children tend to carry on the traits of their parents and become authoritarian as they grow up.

Permissive Parenting

This form of parenting involves showering nothing but love on the children, allowing them to get away with everything they want. This form of parenting usually leads to kids growing up selfish, aggressive and impulsive. Furthermore, they lack independence and do not want to be accountable for their actions.

Neglectful Parenting

This parenting style involves parents who don’t engage much in raising up their kids. They either hand over care to a third person, or turn to mobiles, tablets and other gadgets to keep kids busy. This leads to kids growing up unruly and aggressive as they hardly had any rules to adhere to when growing up. Other issues include communication problems and even lack of self-control.

Indulgent Parenting

Like in permissive parenting, the indulgent parenting style features parents who place less rules and constraints on their kids, fostering an ‘anything goes’ attitude that leads to low self-control and accountability in them. On the brighter side, kids with indulgent parents tend to treat the latter like friends and end up being more creative while also being more prone to confide in them during times of distress.

Authoritative Parenting

This is the best parenting style and is characterized by parents who set boundaries and limits while also indulging them for good behaviors. Kids are given higher levels of independence as they grow, thus becoming more confident to become leadership material by the time they become adults. This style of parenting also leads to better self-control, self-reliance and social skills in both their professional and personal lives.

Different parenting styles have different impacts on children and the way grow up to become adults. The best form of parenting however, is the authoritative parenting that has the right mix of indulgence and adherence to rules to help kids grow up into future leaders.
