Decorating teen girl’s bedroom on budget

Teenage is a wonderful phase of life when one experiences a sudden transformation, physically as well as mentally. It is also a very challenging period as teenager seeks self-identity during this time. As the teen girl matures, the first thing she wishes to do is to transform her bedroom to suit her changed personality. It is obvious that she wants to make her bedroom a reflection of what her style is, a tomboy, a bookworm or a trendsetter. Parents often are worried in these situations, especially if they have budget constraints. It is not impossible to decorate your daughter’s room on a low budget, a few tricks to follow and you sail through smoothly.

1. Let’s do it together sweetie

Before you start on your mission of decorating your daughter’s bedroom, sit with her, have a one to one talk, and explain the comfortable budget. It should not be difficult if you have already laid a strong foundation of finances in her since childhood. If you have not done it, it is never late to do it now. Ask her about her preferences because she deserves this freedom, and make a list of all that she wants. The list would give you an idea about the approximate budget. You can mutually zero down on the most important things from the list and leave the rest out. Once the final list is ready, half the job is done.

2. Pick the right shade

The first step for the makeover of a teen’s bedroom is to paint the room in her favorite color. Most teenage girls will settle down for a ‘Rose pink’ or’ lavender pink’ but in case she does not have a particular choice then you can choose anything that matches with the accessories of the room. In fact, you can also paint it white to get a spacious and soothing look and use colorful art works to contrast it with something bright. Choosing different shades for the different areas of the room can make it attractive for the little princess. Wall murals can be a good option to use; you can either paint your own mural or buy a wallpaper mural to stick it on the wall. Wall decals can also be a perfect choice as an embellishment and you can look for an inexpensive peel and stick variety. Wall stencils are a suitable option to create pretty designs in the wall and if you can make the stencils yourself, you can save the extra bucks too.

3. Accessories do the trick

Once the paint is done, you need to focus on the most important aspect of the décor, which are the accessories. The right furniture completes the look of the room. Painting the old furniture in a shade to match with the room is one of the best ideas to control the finances. In case, it is essential to buy new furniture, you can look for second hand shops, garage sales or flea markets to find items in a reasonable price. Once bought, you can paint this furniture to go with the décor of the room. A teenager’s bedroom should not be overloaded with furniture and so you need to take care of the storage options. Bed with storage facilities, multi storage drawers, shelves and rolling bins can help to give a neat look to the room. Few items such as beanbags or hammock chairs for sitting, bright curtains, trendy lampshades, colorful cushions, throw rugs and well-done bedding can add the zing to the ambience.

4. The special effects

Instead of buying expensive wall hangings and portraits, you can always install a corkboard and let your little girl create her own collage out of the craftwork she has done in school. This will give the room a personal feel and she will be most delighted to keep creating something new every time. You can also use posters of her favorite star at one corner of the room or use a variety of lights to complete the décor of the room. Soft toys can never go wrong with a teenage girl; you can place it on one side of the bed to give a girly touch. Full-length mirrors embellished with flowers or beads are not only useful but also enhance the beauty of the room.

Decorating the bedroom of a teenage girl can be fun and enjoyable. A little creativity, smart shopping and placing the furniture in the right place can ensure that you have a contemporary and appealing décor and that too in your budget.
