The Clek Foonf seat has been designed to protect the occupants, especially children, with a ‘crumple zone’ idea. Crumple zone is an area of the automobile that is designed to get smashed, deformed and crumpled in case of collisions and accidents. Clek Foonf is a convertible seat that can be installed in automobiles. It has a built-in, patented REACT system acts as a crumple zone to minimize the impact of sudden braking and accelerations. It is estimated to reduce the frontal collision forces transmitted on the forward-facing child by almost 40 percent.
Design
Built as a sleek and lightweight seat, the Foonf has its name derived from the German word meaning ‘five’. It has the five attributes of safety, comfort, style, sleekness and lightness. Designed as a convertible seat, it has been made with a reinforced magnesium frame and a rigid latch system that is easy to install. The seat can be installed either in a front-facing manner or a rear-facing manner. The flexible latch connectors come with built-in lock offs and an anti-rebound bar that can be snapped into the place. Packed inside is a patented energy absorption system, the ingenuity of the design lies in the fact that all these features have been fitted into a seat that is sleeker than the narrowest of the seats. Though it looks wholesome and complete, it is so compact that 3 such convertible seats can fit into the backseat of the car. Designed as the next step of the infant seat, the Clek Foonf should be installed rear-facing for the kids weighing 15-45 pounds and are 25-43 inches tall. It should be forward-facing for the kids weighing 20-65 pounds and are 25-49 inches in height.
Concept and use
When a collision occurs, the car comes to an abrupt and dead halt. The seats and occupants however continue to move with the momentum that had been generated by the speeding automobile. Adults can make use of their intelligence and limbs to save themselves from the impact to a certain extent. But this is not possible for children. The idea is to increase the time available for the child to come to a complete stop in case of a collision. The REACT safety system that has been built into the Clek Foonf seat does just that. The aluminium crumple zone absorbs the energy that results from the collision. Thus, a series of controlled events can change the momentum.This rides down the collision and ensures that far lesser impact is delivered to the child.
Cost
The seat will start shipping in the summer of 2012 and will be priced around $474.99.
