Carhenge signifies purposeful auto recycling

Yesterday, I told you about the fabulous aviator makeover at Kingsland, in England. Keeping on with the same streak, Jim Reinder’s Carhenge, made from vintage American automobiles, uniquely glorifies the theme of recycling. Imitating Stonehenge in England, it also has attracted visitors’ attention since June 1987 and has a dedicated visitor’s center too.

The exquisite artistry at Stonehenge inspired Jim, the experimental artist, and he set out to create his own near the city of Alliance, Nebraska on the High Plains. Carhenge proudly flaunts 38 automobiles circling a 29 m area. Still, the modest car-shaped gravestone reads:

Here lie three bones of foreign cars. They served our purpose while Detroit slept. Now Detroit is awake and America’s great!

Along with the Carhenge, the site is a home for other automobile sculptures as well, which is named as the Car Art Reserve.
