Birthday party ideas for 12-13 year old girls

The most difficult age for any girl is when they are 12 – 13 year old. They do not feel like kids but they are certainly not adults yet. They have the need to feel ‘special’ and ‘loved’. They feel like a young adult which, in common parlance, is known as tween. They like to behave like their peers. It becomes important to them what their peers think of them. When you are planning to arrange a birthday party, think of activities that will appeal to a teenage girl. However, supervision of such parties is very crucial.

Feeling like a lady

A majority of the teenage girls like to do activities that other girls are doing in their area or school. So you can take them to a fancy restaurant with their group of friends or you can buy tickets to the latest concert for the birthday girl and her friends. If she is more interested in health and beauty then you can take her to the spa, arrange for manicures and pedicures for the special girl. If you are short on ideas, you can actually talk your daughter and ask her what she would like for her birthday. However, the surprise element will be missing.

Mixed-Gender parties

Nowadays teenage girls usually like to invite boys to the birthday parties. This is completely acceptable but these should not go unsupervised. But don’t stifle your child in the name of supervision as she might be interested in some kind of independence. You can help her in preparing for a dance party or costume party. Kids at this age are obsessed with sexual exploration so you must strictly set the boundaries for your child before her guests arrive. You must be present during the birthday party but you should be ‘invisible’. After all, you should not give any opportunity to your child to resent you. It is also a good opportunity for you to find out if she is mixing with the wrong type of boys.

Outdoor activities and sports

Active parties are hugely popular with 12 & 13 year old girls. She might like enjoying the day at an amusement park or at a sporting event. If the child loves adventure, then you can take her to a rock gym or an indoor adventure park. She might even enjoy a hike or a picnic in the nearby forest. How about surprising your little girl by bringing a birthday cake, and some real good apple cider?

Surprise parties

The thing that touches a girl’s heart more is the realization that her friends were caring enough to plan a surprise birthday party for her. If you find that her friends are not taking initiative then you can approach one or two of her friends to help them plan a surprise birthday party. But, again, you need to stay in the background. The day belongs to her so let her enjoy to the fullest. She must never feel that her dad arranged all the stuff. She must get the feeling that her friends are caring and loves her dearly.
