Celebrities adopting kids from third world countries are a staple diet for broadsheet and tabloid journalists. Newspapers make mockery of their intention and at times praise them. But there is a cynicism in the air regarding why celebrities do that? Even the readers are amazed by the numbers of celebrities adopting kids.
The adoptions are numerous and always conjure up images from the rusty lands of Africa to the difficult terrains of Asia. But the question still hangs why famous people do it? This in no way is an act of charity. Neither it is the failure to conceive biologically. Is it the desire to find meaning where no meaning exists? Is it a payback for the excessive amounts of money and fame they have? Nobody can really pin it down. But one thing is for sure, that this is indeed a great act. An act that should be respected. There are people in Hollywood and across the world that have proved their mettle as responsible parents to these adopted kids. There are people who have shunned publicity for the higher gift of responsibility.

She is not just the mother of an adopted kid, but also the mother of this trend. At least in Hollywood she was the one whose adoption affliction made it to the papers and hit everyone hard. To this day Madonna is going strong. In an unprecedented move this single mother was given the permission to adopt the three old Chifundo. She also adopted a boy named David back in 2006. Madonna is also the biological mother of two, daughter Lourdes and son Rocco.
Angelina Jolie and brad Pitt
If Madonna made the headlines, then this couple that is also known as Brangelina simply filled every newspaper edition with their adoption stories. Their brood has grown literally exponentially over the years. It includes son Maddox, Pax, daughter Zahara and Shiloh. They also have biological twins Vivienne and Knox. The sincerity of their motives is evident by the fact that they have tried to keep this process as low profile as possible. If a celebrity chooses to care full time for an entire brood of childrens that are not even their biological offsprings then people must stand up and take notice. The cynicism in the air against this couple is the dark smoke of gossip chimneys and nothing else.

For ages, single mothers have been a source of inspiration. Raising kids on your own is definitely a difficult experience. But choosing to be a single mother is a courageous move that should be commended. Singer Cheryl Crow is one such example; she fulfilled her desire of being a single mother with the adoption of son Wyatt in 2007. She can be seen with Wyatt at her concerts and tours. If it proves anything it proves a simple fact, that these people do not see it as charity.
May be celebrity culture has given us many dark hours but this is one of the brightest spot that we should be proud of.
