7 ways to jazz up your kid’s room

Whenever you decide to give your kid’s room a makeover, the first step you take is to paint it. You try to splash some color on the walls in the hopes that your child will be happy with the result. But the results may not exactly fill your kid with joy since the choice of color is bound to be yours and not his – kids can get pretty creative with color and you might think that he’ll choose something that’s too out of the box.

When painting, there are other things you need to take into consideration aside from the color. A little creativity can go a long way in transforming his room into an area that he’d love to hang out in. Read on to find out seven ways to incorporate vibrant shades into your kid’s room:

1. Kids love chocolates

Painting your kid’s room a baby blue color or baby pink are dated concepts. Your kid might even grow bored seeing the same shades you vote for whenever his room needs a paint job. So this time, be bold enough to give the walls a chocolate treat. Kids love chocolates and you can always capitalize on this idea by giving a chocolate brown shade to one of the walls of the room. Contrast it with a light color on the other walls. The dark wall will create a “cozy corner” feel for your child. Add extra zing to the chocolate wall by decorating it with cutouts, stickers and wall hangings of contrasting and bold colors to make it even more attractive for your kid.

2. Primary colors are good

Rather than light shades and secondary colors, your kid more easily identifies with primary colors. These colors are bright, light reflecting and bold. They create a fresh and lively feeling in the room so the next time you decide on painting, use different shades and patterns of primary colors as your nursery theme. Couple a darker shade of primary color with a lighter shade of contrasting primary color and paint the walls accordingly.

3. Wall mural with colored blocks

Children love things that are unconventional and bright. Create a wall mural in your kid’s room that he can be really proud of and show off to his friends. He’ll be the envy of all his pals. First start by creating a simple mural. Then select some bold shades of primary colors and make square, geometric blocks on the wall of equal sizes. Fill them up with the colors you have selected. This is a great way to match the furniture and accessories in his room. The colorful mural will also add a touch of splash if his accessories are on the plainer side.

4. Patterned pink for a girl’s room

It’s a known fact that the color pink appeals to all young girls. Most parents choose it when painting their girl child’s room. But though it may be her favorite color, the same shade to fill her room may make her bored. What you can do is make patterns to break the monotony. Incorporate horizontal blocks through all the walls in equal shapes and sizes. Then, paint them alternately with a deeper and lighter shade of pink. This will lend depth to the room as well as act as a decoration of sorts.

5. Blue can be innovative

Blue is not reserved for boys only. Neither is it a rule that you can never couple it with shades that will make it girlish. Whether you have a boy or a girl child, you can always paint their rooms in blue with a few extra additions. The shade you select for the color can be different every time, ranging from azure and aquamarine blue to baby blue or sky blue. Once the basic wall painting is over, jazz it up with small motifs or stencil paintings on any wall. Color these motifs and stencils with girlish colors like soft pink, fresh green and bright yellow, keeping parity with the shade of blue you have chosen for the background.

6. Bring a smile to the room with sunshine yellow

Yellow is universally known as a ‘happy’ color. An instant good mood booster, paint your child’s walls with a bright yellow sunshine tone. It will make the walls come alive. Combine this color with vibrant pinks, striking blues or glowing reds to make your kid smile even on a sad day.

7. Accessorize the room

Together with a brightly painted room, wall accessories, multicolored drawers and colorful toys can add a dramatic effect. Not only are they interesting to look at, but they also help break up large spaces into smaller, more interesting ones.
