4 discipline mistakes parents often make

It is not that parents never make mistakes because sometimes they do. Parents want their children to understand the importance of discipline in life and they often make some mistakes while teaching this lesson to their kids. Some of the mistakes are so common that almost every parent has made it once or even twice at some point of time or another. If you are a parent then you should know about these discipline mistakes so that you could avoid them in the future. It is time to move and list the four common discipline mistakes made by most parents.

  • Not being respectful: if you want your kids to give respect then you should follow the same too. When some parents begin to teach their kids the value of discipline they tend to be disrespectful with the children. Yelling at the kids is definitely not the solution to any problem and in fact could be a reason for some new ones. Therefore the parents must try and maintain their calm while talking to kids.
  • Anger and a discipline lesson don’t match: if you are planning to give your child a lesson on being disciplined then you better do that when you are in a good mood. Just like drinking and driving has bad outcomes similarly giving discipline lessons to a kid in a foul mood can have adverse effects. You might set out for a different outcome but the result might not be what you expected.
  • Short is good, lengthy is bad! Short explanations work on anyone and everyone and this is true for kids as well. It is good to explain things to them in a little detail but you should not drag the explanation and keep on going and going. Kids are not the perfect role models for patience and therefore if you keep your explanation long then they might not even grab the important part from it.
  • A positive approach is always a winner! Some parents begin their lesson with a negative note and continue it with another negative example and then end it again on a note of negativity. Don’t do that as you want your kid to be positive and hence teach your kid a lesson on discipline with only positive thoughts and examples.

Parenting is a tough job and if you have help in the form of tips then you can do better at it.
