Your music might be turning you deaf!

Exposure to deafening music sound in pubs, clubs and concerts may turn your life soundless altogether, by turning you deaf, claims a new study of 1,381 people, aged between 16 and 30, in Britain.

As per the findings of this study, nine out of 10 young people who spent a night listening to loud music at a club or pub revealed signs of hearing loss or slight deafness. Bringing this report more clearly, the same report states that 70 per cent of clubbers, 68 per cent of gig goers and 44 per cent of bar drinkers suffer symptoms of hearing damage such as dullness of hearing or ringing in the ears, also known as ‘tinnitus’.

How badly exposure to such deafening music may affect acoustic capacity could be understood from the fact that where standing near a pneumatic drill exposes a person just to 110 decibels. On the other end, people enjoying rock concerts are normally exposed to maddening sound of 125 decibels.

This is really quite a serious issue because young generation is mad about DJs, rock bands and rocking music and if we look at the present scenario in the light of the facts, which have rolled out of this new study then we could say that such people (those who love loud music) are at an increased risk of deafness. Therefore, it won’t be wrong to say that such people should be provided with important instructions that would prevent music listeners against various side effects that come out from so-called, rocking music. Expressing view on this aspect Dr John Low, chief executive of RNID, said:

We are all familiar with messages about practising safe sex and using suncream – but the lack of any guidance on loud music means this generation of music lovers could be facing a hearing loss timebomb.

However, some simple methods could be applied, at least, to lessen the side effects of such deafening music that include wearing ear plugs in case of regular exposure to loud music, standing away from loud speakers. These measures should be applied intently otherwise, music that is known, as the food for soul, won’t take too long to corrode our acoustic capacity. Many other side effects have also been associated with accredited to loud music; have a look here:-
