Females with high levels of folic acid are to be expected to have twins following in vitro fertilization (IVF). Researchers of the Rowett Research Institute and Aberdeen University in Scotland came to this conclusion in a research.
According to the researchers, the folic acid in females though does not help in conceiving but can be a cause to have twins. The folic acid increases embryo survival in females. The serious birth defect occurs during the early development of the fetus. Women are advised to take extra dose before and early months of pregnancy to tackle this problem. And the chances of a twin birth after IVF rise in early months because of the increased folic acids status.
